Share Market Live: Sensex falls by 1% in all-round selloff

Sensex and Nifty 50 fell by 1 per cent each on Tuesday due to an all-round selloff

Investors lost over Rs 2 lakh crore in a single day

The Indian stock market witnessed a sharp selloff on Tuesday, with the benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 falling by 1 per cent each. The selloff was broad-based, with all sectors except FMCG and IT ending in the red.

The decline was led by banking stocks, which fell by over 2 per cent. IT stocks also declined by over 1 per cent. On the other hand, FMCG stocks gained by over 1 per cent, while IT stocks rose by over 0.5 per cent.

The fall in the market was attributed to a number of factors, including concerns over rising inflation, global economic uncertainty, and the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The selloff in the Indian stock market was in line with the global trend, as major markets around the world also declined on Tuesday.

Despite the selloff, the Indian stock market has outperformed global peers on a year-to-date basis. The Sensex and Nifty 50 have gained by over 10 per cent so far in 2022, while major markets around the world have declined by over 5 per cent.
