Ex-Strictly pros 'mock' BBC bullying claims as dancer's nose bloodied
Former Strictly Come Dancing professionals have mocked BBC bullying claims after a dancer was left with a bloodied nose following an alleged attack by a celebrity partner.
Karen Hardy, who appeared on the show between 2003 and 2016, said she was "lost for words" after reading about the incident, which is said to have taken place during rehearsals for the current series.
She tweeted: "I'm lost for words. Bullying, intimidation, violence - what the hell is going on? This is not the show I know and love."
Fellow former professional Brendan Cole also took to social media to express his disbelief.
He wrote on Instagram: "I'm shocked and saddened to hear about the bullying claims on Strictly. This is not the show I know and love."
The BBC has said it is investigating the allegations, but has not yet commented further.
The dancer who was allegedly attacked has not been named, but is said to be a professional who has appeared on the show for several years.
The incident is said to have taken place during rehearsals for the current series, which is due to start airing in September.
The BBC has said it is committed to providing a safe and respectful working environment for all its staff and contributors.
The corporation added: "We take any allegations of bullying or harassment very seriously and will investigate them thoroughly."
Strictly Come Dancing is one of the BBC's most popular shows, and has been on air for 17 series.
The show has been praised for its inclusivity and its ability to appeal to a wide range of viewers.
However, the recent bullying claims have raised questions about the show's culture and whether it is doing enough to protect its staff and contributors.
