On 17th September 2024, 14-year old Indian judoka Tulika Maan scripted history by becoming the youngest Indian and the youngest judoka overall to win a Grand Prix medal. She achieved this feat by winning the bronze medal in the women's 78kg category at the Zagreb Grand Prix, a prestigious international judo tournament. This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone for Maan and for Indian judo.
Maan's journey to the podium was nothing short of extraordinary. In the first round, she faced Anastasiia Turchyn of Ukraine and defeated her with an impressive ippon, demonstrating her technical prowess. In the quarter-finals, she encountered the experienced and higher-ranked Aleksandra Babintseva of Russia. Despite the odds, Maan displayed remarkable resilience and determination, defeating Babintseva with a waza-ari, showcasing her ability to overcome challenges.
