Joaquin Phoenix abruptly left the set of Todd Haynes' upcoming film "Mayflower" in the middle of production. Per Deadline, Phoenix was scheduled to play the lead role of Captain Christopher Jones but ultimately departed the project without finishing his scenes.

"Mayflower" has since wrapped filming with Deadline reporting that Phoenix's role was "completely recast" with Deadline noting Barry Keoghan stepped into Phoenix's role.

Phoenix declined to comment on his reasons for leaving the film. When asked by Entertainment Tonight about his departure, the actor said, "That's not something I'm willing to talk about."

Sources shared with Deadline that Phoenix's departure was due to "creative differences." However, Phoenix has not publicly confirmed this.
